Where we began

Rooster figures left at shrines carry meaning for the people who bring them. When plaster figures accumulate, they also leave a material burden to manage. The question is how to offer another choice that respects the act of fulfilling a vow while considering what happens to the offering afterwards.

How we approached it

DO IN THAI supported young entrepreneurs in Nakhon Si Thammarat who were developing rooster offerings made from biodegradable paper containing seeds. Their idea kept the familiar form of the offering while changing its material. Our part was to support their work on an alternative to plaster, with the intention of reducing the material that accumulates at shrines while leaving room for the beliefs behind the practice.
