Stop Hate Speech

Where we began

Something we once posted or shared may look different when we return to it later. We may notice words whose effects on other people we did not consider at the time. Stop Hate Speech explored whether revisiting our own social media history could give us a chance to recognise hateful language and take responsibility for what we had shared.

How we approached it

At a time when Facebook allowed access to user feeds, we developed an application that people could choose to use to analyse their posts for hate speech. It offered options to remove content, giving participants a way to act after looking back through their history. This is a record of that experiment. It relied on platform access that may no longer be available today.
